Dexer replied to the topic 'Jambalaya--August Song of the Month' in the forum. 7 hours 53 minutes ago I grew up with the non-cajun version of Jambalya. My dad had a 78 of the Jo Stafford version. I still have it (though I no longer have a turntable that plays 78s)! "Back in the day" before pop music was so easy to access, you figured the records you had in the house were the definitive versions of the songs. I was in my 20's before I discovered that Jamabalaya was a Hank Williams song . youtu.be/KmiOd496los Read More... Marcy created a new topic ' Jambalaya--August Song of the Month' in the forum. 9 hours 20 minutes ago One winning tune for August is Hank William's 1952 country hit, Jambalaya. Marcy created a new topic ' Garryowen August Song of the Month' in the forum. 9 hours 40 minutes ago One of August's songs of the month is the 18th century Irish drinking song, Garryowen. It's a popular march tune for British, Canadian, and American military formations. It's pretty well known as the favorite marching tune for General George Custer's 7th Cavalry. Here's tab from harptab.com... www.harptabs.com/song.php?ID=4795 Here's a lesson that breaks the tune down from Harp Surgery... www.harpsurgery.com/garryowen-irish-harmonica/ And here it is from Annie and Mac... www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMXlmZAhgFo This will be a fun one. Marcy replied to the topic 'Poll for August Song of the Month' in the forum. 10 hours 4 minutes ago Woah, a sneak attack from Gary Owen puts it in a close second with Jambalaya in first. Looks like some good tunes this month! Read More... Tootler replied to the topic 'Poll for August Song of the Month' in the forum. 13 hours 41 minutes ago I didn't vote for Whiskey in the jar because I sing it regularly and I could play it through by ear, no problem. I voted for tunes I didn't know as the tune of the month is a good way of learning new tunes. Another thought on the ones that didn't win. How about a thread for tunes I voted for but didn't win? or even just for tunes that didn't win? Read More... Reed Smith replied to the topic 'Hohner Rocket Low, Where?' in the forum. 14 hours 54 minutes ago @Gerald, Yeah man I have a Thunderbird in Low A, and a couple old Sp20's Low tuned. 1 LD, and 1 LF. The Thunderbird is nice no argument there, but the price is a little steep for a harmonica I play all of twice over a 4 hour gig. I was skeptical of the Rockets at first because of the W-I-D-E gapping, but after flat sanding the bottom plate, re-gapping and setting a correct profile on them I like them very well, I especially appreciate the new comb, and they are to be priced in the $70-80 range. When you get into the lower keys on low harps the bends in holes one and two are nearly if not entirely impossible to bend because of their length. I can't bend hole 1 on a low A and have to practically dislocate my jaw to get my mouth and throat wide enough to bend hole 2. So playing like the higher tuned harp isn't always gonna happen as far as A,B, comparison. @Marci, Ron Hobdy is a great guy and one of the best harp vendors to come along in some time. I'll call him and see what's up, if anyone can get the goods first, it'll be Ron. Our cemetery was started when some Buffalo Soldiers were camped there and several died of dysentery. The were buried where they died. The graves are marked by a rock with " A soldier" carved on it.
